We are delighted to present the annual Frontiers in Pediatrics 'Women in” series of article collections.
The Research Topic of Women in Neonatology 2022, in Frontiers in Pediatrics, aims to support gender equity, and address inequities facing both women and non-binary clinicians and researchers. Our community is richer and possibilities greater when we each actively advocate for and work towards equitable, diverse and inclusive collaborations in the clinical setting and in research related to neonatology.
Gender inequity in health and medical research has been perpetuated by long standing unconscious bias and structural barriers to the recruitment, retention, career progression and recognition of women’s achievements. The Editorial team wishes to address, support and encourage the next generation of women and girls to pursue research careers.
We will accept all types of manuscripts and a variety of themes from both high and Low-Middle income countries.
At present, less than 30% of researchers worldwide are women. Long-standing biases and gender stereotypes are discouraging girls and women away from science-related fields, and STEM research in particular. Science and gender equality are, however, essential to ensure sustainable development as highlighted by UNESCO. In order to change traditional mindsets, gender equality must be promoted, stereotypes defeated, and girls and women should be encouraged to pursue STEM careers.
Therefore, Frontiers in Pediatrics is proud to offer this platform to promote the work of women scientists, across all fields of Neonatology.
The work presented here highlights the diversity of research performed across the entire breadth of Neonatology research and presents advances in theory, experiment, and methodology with applications to compelling problems.
Please note: to be considered for this collection, the first or last author should be a researcher who identifies as a woman.
