Models simulating the spread of infectious diseases and evaluating its control are useful tools to understand the epidemiology and agent-host interaction of diseases. They are developed and applied since over a century, but with increasing computer capacity they become increasingly prominent as part of evidence based decision making. Infectious disease models can be used to answer a diversity of research questions:
- To plan preparedness programs of exotic diseases, simulating its spread and evaluate best control strategies to be undertaken in case of an incursion
- To evaluate most effective strategies to control or eliminate endemic diseases
- To simulate Real-time in-outbreak forecasting of disease spread and effectiveness of control measures
- To investigate host, agent or environmental related risk factors for disease spread
- Among others
Within this research topic, we target for publication describing, applying and/or validating infectious disease model to answer questions in relation to animal health. Research on both, epidemics and endemic diseases are welcome. We aim for any type of model (differential equation models, Monte Carlo simulation models, Bayesian models, Markov chain models, social network models) in domestic animal or wildlife populations or in their interface.
Description of proper parameter estimation, sensitivity analysis and where possible, validation of the models are desired. We welcome the submission of manuscript types of original research, methods, reviews, perspective, Hypothesis & Theory and opinion.
We expect that this research topic will gather interesting research papers using different and up-to-date methodologies and modeling approaches that are used in the fight against animal diseases.
