Although traditionally ketones have been viewed with distrust by the medical community, today they are increasingly understood as both an important oxidative fuel and pleiotropic signaling metabolites. Recent data has illustrated the potential for broad applications of ketosis in health and disease; for example for athletic performance and recovery, cognitive performance, neurodegeneration, metabolic health and cardiovascular health. There is an urgent need for work that refines our mechanistic understanding of ketosis in each of these use cases as well as interrogating further proposed use cases.
The proposed Research Topic will contain emerging research results related to various aspects of ketone biology on health, resilience and performance. The envisioned special collection will discuss the most recent research regarding methods of achieving ketosis (e.g., ketogenic diet, exogenous ketones) and the broad impacts of ketosis in health and disease.
The envisioned collection will contain emerging research results related to various aspects of ketone biology on health, resilience and performance. The scope of this special collection will include the ketogenic diet, exogenous ketones, and the broad impacts of ketosis in health and disease. Both animal and human studies are within the scope of this special collection. Primary research as well as review papers are welcome.
