The International Association for Ecology (INTECOL) supports collaboration amongst
ecologists and ecological societies across the world. Ecologists can share their
knowledge and work together to find creative solutions to world’s ecological issues. The
last INTECOL congress took place in China in August 2017: “Ecology and Civilization
in a Changing World,” organized by IntEcol and the Ecological Society of China.
The IntEcol conference is organised every four years, with most recent editions in
Beijing, London and Brisbane, and Montreal. It represents a unique opportunity to
gather state-of-the-art research in fundamental ecology, and to create links with
societal challenges. The University of Geneva, associated with HES-SO//Geneva, and the Geneva
Environment Network is organising the conference in 2022 on the topics: Frontiers in Ecology: Science and Society. This research topic represents a great opportunity for all speakers to contribute to a special issue in the journal Frontiers in Ecology and Evolution.
Ecologists are leading efforts to conserve intact and resilient ecosystems as well as the biodiversity they support and that supports them. Where ecosystems have been degraded or lost, efforts are aimed at their restoration or offsetting. The goal of this topics is to present convincing approaches and examples that can be positively replicated in other regions or ecosystems.
Contributions to this Topic will include among others, studies on rewilding, on ecological infrastructure and other area-based conservation measures, nature-based solutions, studies on species abundance, and on predictive tools for conservation. These contributions should serve as a basis for effective conservation planning with examples presented from different type of ecosystems in pond and pondscapes, urban settings, and other specific ecosystems.
Participants to the IntEcol 2022 Conference are invited to present their original research work, review or opinion papers.
