The consequences of drug induced allergy can be severe and even life threatening. Accurate drug allergy diagnosis and testing is key in order to avoid mislabeling and improve disease management. However, there is currently a lack of standardized procedure and challenges remain when approaching drug allergy diagnosis in both adult and pediatric patient populations.
In line with this Journal Section’s mission to highlight the importance of drug allergy and address key areas in this field, Frontiers in Allergy is pleased to be launching this Research Topic calling for the submission of papers providing new insights into drug allergy diagnosis and testing. All manuscript types accepted by Frontiers are welcome. Suitable Topics include but are not limited to:
• In vivo tests: puncture, prick test, and patch test
• In vitro tests: late sensitivity - enzyme-linked immunosorbent spot assay (ELISpot) and others
• Clinical algorithms
• The role of laboratory tests in drug allergy: specific IgE dosage, basophils activation test, lymphocyte transformation test
• Diagnosing drug allergy in children and infants: guidance/ unique challenges
