About this Research Topic
Fungi include innocuous environmental organisms, opportunistic pathogens, commensal organisms, and fungi that can actively and explicitly cause diseases. Pathogen fungal infection is an increasingly serious health problem, resulting in 14.9 million cases and 1.7 million deaths globally every year. Different fungi cause diseases with varying degrees of severity in individuals with normal or impaired immunity, and the disease state results from the fungal pathogen's interactions with the host immunity. In addition, the role of the fungal microbiome on immunity and disease is an emerging area of interest and many underlying mechanistic processes remain elusive. Herein, a better understanding of the molecular and cellular basis of antifungal and fungal microbiome immunity will undoubtedly provide opportunities for novel therapeutic strategies and applications. Therefore, the purpose of our topic is to discuss and explore the underlying mechanisms of fungal pathogen and commensal fungi interactions with the host immunity as well as new strategies and recent updates on antifungal immunity.
This Research Topic focuses on new strategies, new methods, and new mechanisms for exploring the pathogen fungal and commensal fungi interactions with the host immunity. We accept both original research articles and review articles and we particularly welcome manuscripts from the following subtopics:
1. Mechanisms of fungal pathogen's interactions with the host immunity (including innate immunity and adaptive immunity)
2. New antifungal strategies and treatments based on the fungal pathogen's interactions with the host immunity
3. New methods for exploring the fungal pathogen's interactions with the host immunity
4. The relationship between the commensal fungi and host immunity
5. The mechanism of fungi crossing the host blood-brain barrier (such as cryptococcus)
6. New discovering in the susceptible host’s immunity system during fungal infection
7. The clinical descriptions of fungal infections and the host immune system
