An increased prevalence in child mental health problems have been reported globally, at a time when tremendous changes have occurred in everyday life, especially within families. World events such as COVID-19, conflict and instability has led to to increased rates of stress and mental health problems, as well as an increase in domestic violence. First meta-analyses report increased rates of psychological problems in children and adolescents after the outbreak of COVID-19, mainly internalizing symptoms as anxiety, depression or posttraumatic stress.
Therefore, this Research Topic focuses on aspects of promoting children's mental resilience and preventing the onset of manifest child psychiatric disturbances by community - based programs, early screenings and easy-to-obtain interventions. We aim to collect novel ideas and approaches from around the world and specifically ask researchers to provide evaluation data or concepts for promoting emotional strength and mental resilience of children within the community.
This Research Topic welcomes papers around, but not limited to:
- Low threshold interventions specifically targeting depression and anxiety in children. This could include programs targeting overeating and increasing motor activity, and reducing violence.
- School-based interventions and preventive approaches targeting at-risk families.
