The water resources management plays an important role in maintaining human health, agricultural production and ecological balance. With the aggravation of climate change, water-energy-food nexus is often mentioned as an ecological chain's influence on climate. All these make water resource management an important topic for sustainable development.
With economic development, especially in low- and mid-income countries, water management and policy-making are becoming increasingly difficult. Apart from the impact of climate changes, asymmetric power relations, limited availability of water resources, socio-cultural and socio-economic imbalances impair the prospect of sustainable water governance in many parts of the world. At the same time, environmental damages in various parts of the world also affect policies and sustainable management of water resources. In the face of current global changes, the availability and quality of water resources are under severe threat.
However, at present, academia is still ignorant about how to deal with these changes from various angles, which is mainly caused by the thought of technological despotism for a long time. This is reflected in a lack of understanding of water-related technological, economic and social aspects, such as water technology innovation, the synergy between economic development and water pollution control, and the social impacts of water governance. Enhanced research is therefore needed to help academics and policymakers better reduce water governance failures and consequent social risks and uncertainties, especially in the current context of climate change.
In this context, specialists from various domains are invited to present their contributions (Original Research, Methods, Reviews, Mini Reviews, Opinions, and Perspectives) to this Research Topic to highlight the different approaches concerning sustainability and the integrated management of water resources management, policy and governance, and formulation of solutions leading to a set of the likely Sustainable Development on Water Resources Management, Policy and Governance in a Changing World.
We wish to promote the exchange of mature and new technologies between different countries to manage water resources sustainably, reconcile the interests of water users, and protect and not deteriorate the state of the natural environment.
We welcome all themes that include the following but not limited to:
