In 2006, twenty research environments in Sweden were allocated funding for a period of ten years. The aim of these so-called Linnaeus grants was to provide stable support for research of the highest quality. One of these grants, funded by SLU (
www.slu.se) and Formas (
www.formas.se), was awarded to researchers at the Chemical Ecology Group, SLU Alnarp.
The IC-E3 project - Insect Chemical Ecology, Ethology and Evolution - aims to understand how insects adapt olfactory-mediated behaviour to internal physiological state and to a changing environment, by phenotypic and genotypic modulation.
We here collect original research, opinion and review papers from IC-E3 participants and from other research groups, on the modulation of olfactory communication, from a short-term physiological to an evolutionary perspective.
