Remote patient monitoring via telecommunications technology is increasingly available and reliable in rehabilitation and preventive public health. Exercise supervision provides an opportunity to deliver medical and preventive care through alternative methods, affecting barriers to utilization and improving access to quality rehabilitation services. Recently, due to the pandemic situation, the focus has shifted towards unsupervised or AI-supervised exercise programs, thus also opening up opportunities for virtual reality (VR) use. The technology has continued to develop rapidly and is gaining an increasing number of enthusiasts in various age categories, as well as in different areas of public health: neurology, psychology, oncology, pediatrics, internal diseases, or preventive purposes.
This Research Topic is essential for summarizing current remote patient monitoring and telerehabilitation services, clarifying the challenges and obstacles in this research area, and presenting recent reports on the implementation of virtual rehabilitation, likewise m-health and e-health solutions. Recent advances in technologies and new clinical applications create an additional need to summarize and further develop the existing literature in this area.
