Various pollutants have been released into the environment due to the rapid development of human society. These pollutants widely exist in different matrices such as water, air, soil, sediment, crops, fruits, plants, and animals. The occurrence of pollutants in the environment could generally induce economic loss, human diseases, and ecological destruction. Therefore, pollutants in the environment have globally attracted more and more attention. Some pollutants such as endocrine disrupting chemicals at very low concentrations can pose high risks to humans, animals, and ecosystems. Some chemicals like antibiotics in the environment might induce unexpected consequences such as the occurrence of antibiotic resistance. The existence of these hazardous pollutants requires novel analytical techniques, more comprehensive assessment approaches, and effective remediation of the contaminated environment.
This Research Topic aims at providing new information and insights on the distribution of hazardous pollutants in the environment, novel approaches for detecting trace pollutants in the environment, comprehensive models for evaluating risks of hazardous pollutants, and effective techniques for remediating the polluted environment.
We welcome research contributions on new methods or techniques for detecting pollutants in biotic and abiotic environments. We welcome authors to submit Original Research articles or Review articles focusing on analysis, assessment, and remediation of pollutants in the environment. Pollutants can include heavy metals, endocrine-disrupting chemicals, persistent organic pollutants, pharmaceuticals and personal care products, pesticides, microplastics, antibiotic resistance genes, and other emerging contaminants.
Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
• Novel technique or method for analyzing hazardous pollutants in the environment;
• Occurrence, fate, and transport of pollutants in the environment;
• Methods for evaluating the risks of pollutants in the environment;
• Pollution control techniques and processes as well as remediation of polluted environment.
