While waves of Covid-19 fluctuate globally, challenges to providing appropriate mental health care services and developing effective solutions in terms of prevention and treatment for anxiety and stress-related disorders remain major concerns.
The social, economic, and health tolls of Covid-19 in the USA and Canada were among the highest in the world. A national survey of more than 5000 US adults in June 2020 by the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) found that more than one-third (40.9%) of the respondents reported at least one adverse mental health condition, such as depression and anxiety.
The goal of this Research Topic is to explore the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on anxiety and stress, looking at the impact on the general population in the US and Canada / North America, on patients and healthcare staff, both during the initial waves and also in the context of long Covid in this region. There is also a unique opportunity to explore possible cross-cultural differences in the expression of anxiety and stress in these times and to study anxiety and stress in relation to the Covid pandemic using longitudinal designs. We also look forward to contributions to novel digital interventions which can increase the feasibility and general access to mental health care treatment.
