Gastric cancer remains a major cause of cancer-related deaths globally. Interdisciplinary treatment of gastric cancer currently poses as a mandatory option in order to improve overall patient survival. Treatment options beyond surgery alone include neoadjuvant and adjuvant oncological treatment. Treatment scenarios for early and advanced disease involve significantly different treatment strategies. Current surgical approaches offer a wide spectrum of minimally invasive and hybrid techniques, combined with pre- and post-operative oncological treatment.
The recent treatment updates in the management of gastric cancer have also prompted the revision of both surgical and oncological approaches. Our goal is to revisit the surgical treatment strategies, indications, and technical aspects of the minimally invasive approach and oncological treatment options (neoadjuvant and adjuvant treatment, FLOT therapy) for gastric cancer and to emphasize the importance of multidisciplinary treatment.
