Many international organizations work to highlight corporate sustainability’s importance while helping firms protect the environment and promote economic growth and sustainable development. Due to their efforts, leading firms have incorporated corporate social responsibility (CSR) as a fundamental part of their business and core values. CSR requires firms to pay due attention to social values such as human rights, employee care, safety and health, community engagement, and environmental protection, in addition to their own business interests.
The realization of corporate sustainability depends on the top management’s commitment to these business philosophies and core values, the engagement of key stakeholders, a pool of skilled managers who champion rationalism and efficiency, and professional management functions. Corporate sustainability is an important factor in deciding the promotion of senior managers. The influence of a chief executive officer (CEO), among other top leaders, cannot be overstated for a company, particularly for its business operations. Each CEO’s leadership style could be distinctive. The need for professional decision-making only strengthens the role of the CEO. Meanwhile, academic interest in personality traits has re-emerged in personality and social psychology as well as education and organizational literature.
This study focuses on the impact of CEO personality traits on business operations and how they contribute to changes in firm performance. By measuring firm performance, this study aims to understand the role of CEO personality traits in the relationship between firm performance and corporate sustainability. Therefore, this research addresses possible issues relating to how senior managers' psychological qualities and experiences affect organizational behavior and outcomes. The perspective of the CEO’s personal traits adds a new dimension to the current literature. In addition, this research can raise awareness of the relationship between corporate sustainability and firm performance and inform future policies. Research findings will enhance the current empirical evidence on corporate sustainability, firm performance, and CEO personality traits, and provide empirical results on their correlations to stakeholders.
