Appropriate treatment in stroke is critical to recovery, however many patients with stroke still suffer from severe disabilities or even die after receiving appropriate treatments. Therefore, the early and accurate predictions of functional outcome after stroke are critical for estimating the probability of developing a particular event in the future, which would be valuable in improving clinical decision-making and facilitating the use of personalized therapy.
Biomarkers, especially blood biomarkers, currently become the focus of intense research efforts because of their economic feasibility. In this sense, there is a great need for molecular biomarkers or the combination of biomarkers and other predictors to identify patients with a specific disease or patients at high risk of progression after standard treatments.
Our goal is to identify biomarkers that have been validated in patients. However, promising biomarkers generated from preclinical studies or machine learning models can also be considered.
This Research Topic will focus upon the use of blood biomarkers in ischemic stroke diagnosis and prognosis, and is open to different scientists who could be interested.
We would like to receive –omics studies such as genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, metagenomics and transcriptomics, brain imaging, or clinical functional evaluation to identify biomarkers that can be useful for the diagnosis and prognosis of ischemic stroke. We welcome authors to contribute original research articles, review articles, and perspectives/opinions.
