In the past few decades, conventional and molecular methods have been employed to reveal biotic and abiotic stress-related mechanisms and strategies have been designed to tackle these stresses. With the recent advancements in genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics and phenomics, scientist are using modern technologies in these fields to reveal stress-response mechanisms in various plants. Omics-related advanced technologies are being used to develop stress tolerance in economically important crops. The benefits of these technologies are being transferred to plant breeders for developing new plant varieties with improved tolerance/resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses. Omics-based approaches are thus, revolutionizing the efforts to develop stress-tolerant crops.
More frequent and severe climate change effects are now an established fact that draws the attention of plant scientists. These climatic change effects are seriously affecting human food production at a faster speed. As a result of an increasing population, these threats need much of our attention to design effective strategies to handle the worsening scenarios. The goal of the proposed research topic is to cluster the recent research efforts through utilizing advanced omics approaches, being applied to reveal the plant stress-response mechanisms and to develop resistance in plants against biotic and abiotic stresses. This research topic will provide an interactive platform for scientists across the world working in the stated arena, and thus help to establish possible coordination in this scientific global village.
