Kidney diseases are a major biomedical problem all over the world. Currently, there are at least 850 million people worldwide who suffer from some degree of kidney function impairment. Diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity and viral infection are some of the many common ailments contributing to kidney disease. Improvements in precision medicine, Omics technologies and informatics have led to an impetus to apply these concepts towards determining better clinical approaches for kidney disease treatment and eradication. The revolution in proteomics, genomics and metabolomics is at the precipice of providing more precise clinical treatment approaches for kidney diseases.
This Research Topic will focus on how proteomics, mass spectrometry and bioinformatics advances have been used to better understand kidney disease and the future development of precision medicine tools for advancing our understanding of the pathology of chronic and acute kidney diseases.
