To celebrate 200th Mendel’s anniversary on the 22nd of July, Frontiers in Molecular Medicine has organized a special Research Topic series focusing on Genetics in Medicine. This Research Topic will specifically focus on gene-targeted diagnostics and therapies for adult and pediatric cancer as the future of precision medicine.
In the age of precision medicine, oncology practice is rapidly changing in favor of targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and gene therapy, and away from toxic chemotherapy. Inhibitors of oncogenic drivers along the proximal and distal signaling pathways, immune and cell cycle checkpoint inhibitors, ex vivo and in vivo gene therapies are gaining ground and expanding treatment options for cancer patients. Also, alternative medicines that block signaling pathways of cellular proliferation have come of age.
The goal of this research topic is to collect research work on the diagnosis and treatment of adult and pediatric cancer to improve our understanding and advance the practice of precision medicine.
