Globally, the psychological health of the aging population has presented a big challenge. The percentage of people older than 65 years is growing faster in developed and developing countries in this decade, which requires expanded knowledge, technologies, and resources for supporting elderly people’s psychological health. Numerous factors that influenced psychological health have been studied, such as chronic diseases, somatic degeneration, changes in family or social relations, and other age-related stressors. An increasing number of coping strategies and interventions have been developed to help elders to deal with psychological issues. However, considering the differences in region, culture, and economy, the chances for elder adults to access resources for maintaining their psychological health are significantly different.
Therefore, with the rising concern in health disparities, this special issue is to figure out the status and mechanisms of psychological health disparities among elder adults and provide effective therapies and interventions as complementary strategies to promote psychological health in vulnerable older adults. Research that integrated multidisciplinary methods, is conducted in real-world conditions, and included participants from different regions is highly encouraged. This Research Topic also welcomes the studies aimed to explore the perspectives on older adults’ psychological health improvement from family caregivers, physicians, and nurses.
The editors are interested in articles that concentrated on presenting new concepts, theories, and correlations via multidisciplinary methods in improving psychological health and alleviating health disparities. The following types of submission are welcomed: original research, systematic review, clinical trial, conceptual analysis, hypothesis and theory, and study protocol.
We welcome submissions that are related (but are not limited) to the following topics:
• Psychological and social health in older adults and family members
• Mechanisms for psychological health disparities
• Viewpoints on psychological health from physicians and nurses
• Interventions to improve psychological health
• Recommendations for psychological health policymaking
