The importance of the formation of a socially-oriented market economy grew due to the adoption of the global goals in the sphere of sustainable development. For practical implementation of this idea in the modern economic systems, there’s a necessity for a new – social and investment – model of economic growth. The essence and the main difference of this model from the traditional model of economic growth are the sources of growth are social investments – investments in humans and an increase in the population’s quality of life.
Among various directions of social investments (including improvement of housing conditions, provision of social justice, financial support, etc.), one of the top-priority ones is the stimulation of education. In the “knowledge economy”, the level of education determines the opportunities for employment and career-building and, therefore, quality of life, and forms the human potential of companies and the economy, their competitiveness, and perspectives of development.
In the existing studies of the interconnection between education and economic growth, education is considered from the economic point of view. However, we treat education from the social point of view as a director of social investments, which contributes to an increase in quality of life and development of human potential. In this case, advantages for economic growth are achieved by means of growth of efficiency not in the sphere of education but in the economy as a whole, in view of the infrastructural role of education in the “knowledge economy”.
The purpose of this Research Topic is to determine the role of education in the structure of a social and investment model of economic growth. For this, scenarios of the development of education are compiled, and perspective mechanisms of education management as a director of social investments are compiled.
