Bioarchaeology belongs to the interdisciplinary subject, which applies the methods and techniques from geological, biological, and environmental sciences to analyzing the biological remains in the broad concept. Compared to those in Europe and America, the bioarchaeologcal researches in East Asia are highly underestimated and generally unknown to the international academia due to the preferences to publishing the papers in domestic journals. Thus, we believe it is timely for us to introduce the latest progresses in bioarchaeology undertaken by scholars in East Asia to the world given the high-speed professional developments in this region.
This Research Topic will invite the archaeologists and scientists working on the biological remains in East Asia to contribute their knowledge and findings to the international fields and provide a scientific platform to communicate among scholars to better understand the biocultural evolution of past humankind in East Asia. This will open up a fresh window to the international readers to understand the recent developments and progresses in bioarchaeology in the region.
Any research using the diverse methods and techniques to analyzing the biological remains at archaeological sites is welcome. The types of manuscripts can be Reviews, Original Articles, and Comments. The themes are included, but not limited to:
• Human osteoarchaeology
• Zooarchaeology
• Archaeobotany
• Bone chemistry
• Ancient DNA
• Ancient protein
• New analytical techniques in bioarchaeology
