About

Mountain forest ecosystems are centers of biodiversity owing to steep ecological gradients. However, these ecosystems are fragile and are threatened by various anthropogenic disturbances coupled with climate change, which in turn is affecting the livelihoods of Indigenous communities. Thus, the importance of biodiversity conservation and the provision of ecosystem services is a prevailing theme nowadays, globally.

Understanding the functioning and management of these ecosystems is essential. Focused studies on the assessment and monitoring of biodiversity and ecosystem service provisioning in view of the dynamic nature of such ecosystems are required to set conservation priorities. The proposed Research Topic, with particular focus on mountainous ecosystems, is seen as an important contribution towards addressing issues related to biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.

This Research Topic invites review and research articles focusing on the ecology and management of mountain forest ecosystems. Topics can include:
• Ecosystem services
• Non-timber forest products as a boon to livelihood and poverty alleviation
• Impacts of climate change
• Biological invasion
• Biomass estimation
• Land Use Land Cover (LULC) changes
• Protected Area Networks (PANs)
• Initiatives willing to pay for biodiversity conservation.
