Dear Colleagues and Friends,
It was with enormous sadness that Rolando Cimaz passed away very suddenly on January 29, 2022.
Rolando has been an esteemed colleague and a very close friend to so many of us for many years. Graduating from Milan University (1987), specializing in Paediatrics (1991) and in Rheumatology (2003), following his Fellowship in Paediatric Rheumatology in Dallas, Texas, he worked in Lyon, Florence, and more recently as Head of Paediatric Rheumatology at Gaetano Pini Hospital, Milan and Professor of Rheumatology at the University of Milan, Italy.
Rolando has been an outstanding champion of pediatric rheumatology in Italy, across Europe, and the whole world. He has been part of numerous international collaborative research and educational initiatives; we have all gained so much from his expertise, insights, wisdom, and personality. Since January 2022, he has also been President of the Italian Paediatric Rheumatology Society.
Rolando has been an incredibly important member of the Paediatric Rheumatology European Society, holding the positions on the PReS Council of Treasurer (1999-2005) and Research Chair (2014-2018).
He will be deeply missed by us all, and by the patients and families, he cared for. We remain deeply indebted to him for all that he has been and all that he has given to Pediatric Rheumatology and our worldwide community.
He was the first Specialty Chief Editor in Frontiers in Pediatrics, and as a Frontiers scientific community, we would like to make the Insights in Pediatric Rheumatology: 2022 a commemorative collection in his honor.
