We are delighted to present the inaugural Frontiers in Plant Science, "Women in Plant-Pathogen Interactions” series of article collections. This Research Topic is headlined by female researchers working in the Plant-Pathogen Interaction field.
At present, less than 30% of researchers worldwide are women. Long-standing biases and gender stereotypes are discouraging girls and women away from science-related fields, and STEM research. Science and gender equality are, however, essential to ensure sustainable development as highlighted by UNESCO. To change traditional mindsets, gender equality must be promoted, stereotypes defeated, and girls and women should be encouraged to pursue STEM careers.
Therefore, Frontiers in Plant Science is proud to offer this platform to promote the work of women scientists, across all fields Plant Pathogen Interactions and this collection will be specifically focused on Plant-Microbe Interaction. This broad topic can include research papers focused on molecular biology, biochemistry, plant physiology, and other relevant areas that give way to the understanding of interactions between microbes and plants.
The work presented here highlights the diversity of research performed across the entire breadth of the Plant-Microbe Interactions research area and presents advances in theory, experiment, and methodology with applications to compelling problems. It will therefore be a diverse collection of articles, but one which will provide an outline of the future trends.
An additional aim is to present global views on this topic and to encourage women, minorities, and early-career researchers to contribute to this Research Topic.
Note: Submissions to this Research Topic are not limited to female researchers alone.
New articles will be added to this collection as they are published.
