The power of modern genetic screening approaches has led to the identification of hundreds of risk genes associated with neurodevelopmental or neuropsychiatric disorders (NPDs) and neurodegeneration diseases (NDDs). Due to the high heterogeneity of the risk genes, a systematic understanding of the etiology of NDDs or NPDs has not been achieved, which hinders the diagnosis and medical treatment of mental diseases.
The goal of this Research Topic is to gather a comprehensive list of articles related to “New insights into neurodevelopmental disorders and neurodegeneration diseases: molecular basis and clinical perspectives.” The collection will cover various aspects spanning from basic, translational and clinical research related to neurodevelopmental disorders and neurodegeneration diseases. We are particularly interested in mechanistic studies using animal (zebrafish, mouse, C. elegans, et al.) and pluripotent stem cell models.
We welcome the submission of Original Research articles, Reviews and Mini-reviews, including the following topics:
- Development of in vitro and in vivo model systems that bring new insights into the understanding of NPDs and NDDs, including zebrafish, mouse, and mammalian pluripotent stem cells;
- Epigenetic regulation of neuropsychiatric disorders and neurodegeneration diseases;
- New conception of etiology of neuropsychiatric disorders and neurodegeneration diseases;
- Crosstalk of signaling pathways, transcription factors and chromatin remodelers that are involved in neural development and neuropsychiatric disorders;
- Redox modulation in neuropsychiatric disorders and neurodegeneration diseases;
- Novel biomarkers or invasive biomarkers for early diagnosis and prognosis of neuropsychiatric disorders and neurodegeneration diseases.
