The Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) resulted in a global health crisis with over 430 million confirmed cases and more than 5.9 million deaths (as of 01/03/22). Treatment guidelines continue to be updated as vaccine coverage is increased.
The pathogenesis of COVID-19 can be divided into two processes: 1) The initial pathogenesis is driven by replication of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), while 2) the subsequent pathogenesis is driven by a dysregulated inflammation/immune system.
The clinical course of COVID-19 can be divided into 2 main phases: 1) symptomatic with/without hospitalization and 2) post-COVID-19.
This Research Topic aims at exploring effects of SARS-CoV-2 vaccination as well as the symptomatic clinical course of COVID-19 and long-term effects of COVID-19.
We welcome manuscripts on SARS-CoV-2 vaccination research, but also regarding the symptomatic course and post-COVID-19 more specifically on:
- Humoral immune responses against disease or following vaccination
- Cellular immune responses against disease or following vaccination
- Breakthrough infections
- Variants of Concern
- Predictive models of disease/outcome
- Post-COVID-19 conditions
- Long COVID-19
- Long-term effects of COVID-19
