The concept of deliberate practice came into existence more than three decades ago, when it was deemed the most effective form of individualized instructor-led training that was found to be a precursor of expert performance. Since then, the concept has been studied in domains such as medicine, teaching, and sports, and has recently been introduced in the field of entrepreneurship. The activities of deliberate practice in the entrepreneurial context are not as structured in other domains given the high level of uncertainty, yet they serve the same purpose, such as attainment of expert performance. Future research on deliberate practices should focus on the quality of sustained purposeful practice to improve entrepreneurial outcomes.
This Research Topic aims to extend the concept of deliberate practice in the field of entrepreneurship by considering the unique features of uncertainty and the complex indeterminate causation inherent to this domain. We invite researchers to submit cutting-edge articles on the cognitive and motivational antecedents of deliberate entrepreneurship practices.
Moreover, we invite research on the role of training in the development of deliberate practices for students, hybrid entrepreneurs, and serial entrepreneurs in the pre-start-up, start-up, and post-start-up stages of entrepreneurial success. The proposed topics can include the following areas but are not limited to them:
- Cognitive and motivational antecedents of deliberate practices in entrepreneurs
- The nexus of entrepreneurial training/education and deliberate practice
- Subjective and objective outcomes of deliberate practice across the life cycle stages of business ventures.
- How can potential operational entrepreneurs develop deliberate practices?
- The role of deliberate practice in inhibiting the entrepreneurial failure rate.
- Conditional processes enhance or limit the outcomes of deliberate practice in the field of entrepreneurship.
- Use of role modeling in deliberate practice
