Over the last decade, there has been growing interest and important developments in the use of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) in improving physical performance and improving physical symptoms of neurological disorders. These advances have been fostered by improvements in the research techniques that enable us to gather insights from different approaches, together with the need to better understand the field in order to achieve our mission to live healthy lives on a healthy planet.
Whilst the community can be proud of major advances, there is still a long way to go. In this Research Topic, we encourage submissions centered around the physical outcomes of using tDCS on the locomotor or musculoskeletal systems with an aim to improve physical performance in healthy individuals or reduce/improve/prevent symptoms in the clinical population. We also welcome contributions that look into the future and define the directions that the field will take in the coming years. What have been the key discoveries so far? What are the most pressing matters that need to be addressed? Where is this research going to take us in the coming years?
This collection will serve as a basis to highlight state of the art research on the effects of tDCS on the locomotor and musculoskeletal systems , and define the progress that needs to be made in the next decade. We encourage authors to contribute with review articles or perspectives. However, all article types are welcomed.
