A wide range of functional biomaterial-based nanosystems or nanoplatforms with different shapes, sizes, and compositions have been developed for various biomedical applications. The functional biomaterial nanosystem has been increasingly used in various applications in drug delivery, bioimaging, cancer therapy, and tissue regeneration. Recently, numerous functional biomaterial nanosystems with the desired ability, such as simultaneous diagnosis and targeted cancer therapy, stimuli-responsive drug release, wound healing and tissue regeneration, have been reported. The multidisciplinary attempts led to the development of several exciting clinically approved nanotherapeutics. The good development of the functional biomaterial nanosystem is closely associated with their future clinical application for improving patients' health and life. In this issue, the most significant achievements and latest advances in the functional biomaterial nanosystem development for cancer therapy and tissue regeneration are critically discussed.
The goal of this research topic is to publish research articles in full length, short communications, review articles, and opinions covering the latest studies, progress, and challenges on functional biomaterial nanosystems for tumor therapy and tissue regeneration. This Research Topic aims to become the reference relevant to the design, modification, construction, characterization, and evaluation of the functional biomaterial nanosystem for their current or future application in tumor therapy and tissue regeneration.
