It is well known that reproductive functions are suppressed or altered under conditions of stress. Environmental factors, infection, malnutrition, and chronic strenuous activity can all lead to alterations in reproductive functionality in animals. Stressors interfere with timing and regulation of reproductive hormones and processes, such as gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), luteinizing hormone (LH), and others.

While similar in function, these processes and their related hormones can present themselves differently in animal models compared to humans. Understanding these differences is crucial to furthering our understanding of how research with animal models should be applied to humans and how it can advance commercial applications for those animal models (E.g., Aquaculture farming with fish, farm animals, domestic animal reproduction, etc.).

This Research Topic will compile original research, review, and perspective articles that enhance and expand our understanding of how stress affects reproductive functionality in animal models. We are especially interested in studies that focus on the reproductive consequences in those animal populations. Work that is explicitly translational to humans will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
