The increasing prevalence of obesity is a global health concern and associated with numerous adverse health consequences including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, osteoarthritis and certain cancers. The COVID-19 pandemic has made the obesity situation worse. It has been argued that the cause of obesity epidemic is multifactorial and associated with complex systems including individual, social and environmental factors.
Therefore effective prevention, treatment and management of obesity through a systems approach is urgently needed. With research innovation and technology development, there have been many advances in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of obesity. However, the evidence for a systems approach to obesity is still lacking.
This Research Topic invites researchers and clinical practitioners to contribute original manuscripts and reviews that will enhance a comprehensive understanding of obesity prevention, treatment and research innovation as well as report recent advances in obesity prevention, treatment and management in lifecycle and complex systems, in particular using new technology such as telehealth, digital health, or machine learning techniques in clinical practice.
We welcome clinical research articles (e.g., clinical trial, case-control study, or case study) or review articles. We also welcome studies on obesity related diseases such as diabetes as well as physical and biological mechanisms of linking important elements to obesity prevention and treatment; as well as studies on public health/health promotion intervention and innovation regarding obesity.
