Demand for freshwater resources has rapidly increased due to ever-increasing human populations and economic development. For this reason, managing our water resources to meet domestic and industrial water needs, sustainable agriculture, and a productive environment for all living organisms is vital. Efficient management of water resources using advanced tools and techniques helps reduce water and sewer costs, irrigation requirements, control energy wastages, and ensure clean and safe water for all.
This Research Topic aims to present recent developments in water resource research that model and investigate the impact of human activities on the water cycle and propose solutions to their management using different innovative tools and techniques. We welcome papers using the advanced tools and methods to understand hydrological processes, predict water availability under changing climatic conditions, and present solutions that improve water resources management practices.
We thus welcome papers including, but not limited to, the following themes:
• Advancements in the monitoring and management of water resources, using remote sensing and GIS applications;
• Development and applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques to understand hydrological processes and predict future conditions;
• Techniques improving the assessment of the quality and quantity of water and their implications for water resource management.
