As the global greenhouse effect intensifies, governments around the world are actively seeking sustainable energy development strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve energy system security and energy resilience. Sound energy resilience policies aim at offsetting climate change-induced risks and recovering quickly, and have become a priority for promoting sustainability and reducing the negative impacts of the greenhouse effect through clean energy access and low-carbon energy penetration. At the same time, the spread of the global pandemic, the increase in natural disasters, and the target of carbon neutrality by middle century have all presented new challenges to global energy resilience. Therefore, the call for research on the subject of the role of resilience of energy system in managing climate change is timely and necessary.
In this Research Topic, we welcome more insightful and vivid evidences to explore the impact of energy resilience and work towards carbon neutrality targets. This is of great significance for the global realization of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and a low-carbon society in the future. Moreover, we hope to discover more multi-disciplinary development studies, and investigate the research trends of energy resilience in the fields of environment, economy, and politics, looking for ways to achieve sustainability and carbon neutrality. Finally, we also desire to hear more scholars’ suggestions for future development, and provide more policy implications and guidance for global governments and decision-makers in the post-pandemic era.
We welcome any research on energy resilience and climate change from a theoretical or practical perspective. Topics of interest for this article collection include, but are not limited to:
• Overview of policy evaluation for energy resilience and climate challenge
• Empirical analysis & theoretical analysis of energy resilience
• Energy system security, resilience, and carbon emissions
• The role of energy resilience in climate change mitigation and adaptation
• Energy security and energy efficiency in the context of COVID-19 pandemic
• Energy poverty, energy transition, and energy sustainability
• Green energy, green innovation, and sustainable development
• Low-carbon energies, energy management, and carbon neutrality
• Energy resilience and climate vulnerability nexus
