In more-developed countries like the UK, about a third of births follow an induction of labor, and another 10-15% follow an unlaboured Caesarean section.
How pregnant women, their families, and those providing their care perceive these interventions appear to vary according to whether or not pregnancy complications have arisen, the health system with which women interact, and wider beliefs and myths about the advantages and disadvantages of timed birth. How such interventions are offered, the supporting advice provided to women and their families, and the modes of induction, in particular, may vary widely. We would like to better understand the contexts within which women and their care providers make such decisions.
Therefore, we are soliciting submissions of manuscripts that will inform the debate and understanding around timing of birth – be that national or regional contexts, written advice provided to women, modes and timing of birth, and the consequences of those decisions for individual women and the health system with which they interact.
