Plant development and response to the environment represent the plant’s unique and remarkable plasticity. It requires fine-tuned and coordinated control of relevant genes. Modification of nucleic acids and chromatin plays an essential role in controlling gene expression and is central to plant development and responses to environmental signals. Understanding the molecular basis of plasticity and adaptability of gene expression in plants is an integral part of people’s efforts for crop improvement. Contrary to transcription factors that directly trigger gene transcription, chromatin modifications add extra complexities and provide an additional layer of controlling gene transcription. Unfortunately, there are missing gaps in our understanding of chromatin modifications; for instance, how chromatin modifiers sense environment signals and vice versa, how these signals affect plant genome structure to regulate plant development.
The aim of this Research Topic is to investigate the molecular mechanisms for diverse epigenetic regulations, which are involved in plant development and environmental responses. We encourage contributions related to the genetic study of epigenetic modifiers, including readers, writers, and erasers, and profiling of epigenetic modifications.
In this topic, we aim to collect not only original research manuscripts on molecular mechanisms for different epigenetic regulations but also papers about cutting-edge new technologies and methods related to the epigenetic study.
