Appropriate use of medicines is important for health maintenance and well-being of patients and must be considered from the viewpoints of clinical staff and patients. Clinical staff have sufficient information about drugs and their usage to avoid medical malpractice such as prescription and dispensing mistakes that otherwise cause adverse drug effects in patients. In addition, medication compliance and proper administration are important for patients. Non-compliance to medications might result in exacerbation of symptoms, and wrong administration might cause adverse drug effects in patients.
Clinical staff such as doctors, pharmacists, and nurses shall guide patients through various methods for appropriate use of medicines. These methods include collection of drug information and counseling for medication, dosage, and administration. The counseling must be conducted, considering patient characteristics and quality of life, based on behavioral and psychological approach.
The accumulation of evidence is necessary for a personalized approach to guide for proper usage of medicines. This research topic aims to focus on current issues associated with, and evidence of, a personalized approach for appropriate use of medicines using different methods.
We welcome contributions in the form of Original Research, Review, Mini Review, Case Report, Hypothesis and Theory and Perspective articles.
We welcome manuscripts that focus on, but are not limited to, the following important topics:
• Practical effective methods to promote appropriate use of medicines by different methods including behavioral and psychological approaches (e.g. patient education, improvement of clinical staffs’ tasks, development of tools for appropriate use of medicines)
• Proposals for effective methods to promote appropriate use of medicines based on findings of research, such as behavioral/psychological studies and database studies
