The COVID-19 pandemic is still raging around the globe, and vaccination remains an effective measure to prevent severe and fatal cases. With the expansion of COVID-19 vaccination coverage, enhanced booster immunization implementation, and the spread of misinformation and disinformation, the population has changed its willingness to get vaccinated. This highlights the importance of studying vaccine hesitancy, vaccine inequity and emerging variants of concern. In addition, the effectiveness and safety of vaccination, including booster doses, need to be further studied as well — as this will affect how the pandemic will progress as the vaccination coverage increases and the restrictions are eased, and how the routine immunization will be maintained during the time of the pandemic.
This Research Topic will focus on vaccination and its related measures in combating the COVID-19 pandemic. We aim to understand the challenges of the COVID-19 vaccination roll-out; evaluate vaccine hesitancy among the different populations; understand the real-world safety and effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccine, and gain insights into the experience of combined COVID-19 vaccination.
We welcome submissions of Original Research, Systematic Review, Clinical Trial and Policy Brief, on the subtopics of the following, but are not limited to:
• Hesitancy to vaccinate against COVID-19: The impact of population knowledge, attitudes and behaviour on vaccine hesitancy; Effects of vaccination willingness, vaccination behavior, and vaccine hesitancy on vaccination coverages;
• Real-world evaluation of the safety and effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines: Safety, persistence and protection of different types of vaccines; Comparison of effectiveness of different vaccines against infection, severe and hospitalized cases;
• Combined vaccination of COVID-19 vaccines: Impact of COVID-19 on routine immunization, best practices in routine immunization, combined vaccination to increase vaccination coverage in the context of COVID-19
