This Research Topic focuses on the topic of reproductive psychology, which relates to well-being and mental health throughout all stages of the reproductive process. Taking a life span perspective in researching reproductive health includes investigation of various factors that may influence reproductive processes, functions, and systems through different stages of life.
Reproductive health addresses the psychological aspects of reproductive problems and the psychological difficulties of individuals, couples and families related to various processes and events that individuals can experience through the course of life. The life span approach in studying reproductive health is gaining much more attention and is being used to study biological, physical, behavioral, social and cultural factors during gestation, childhood, adolescence and adulthood that affect reproductive health. It also provides a more comprehensive vision of reproductive health and its determinants. Life span provides a framework that investigate opportunities to improve health in later life and highlights the importance of services that focus on the needs of the individuals/groups in each stage of life.
This Research Topic addresses current advances in literature related to the promotion and protection of reproductive health using the life course approach. It will consider how research might be translated into practical applications and recommendations, development of evidence-based interventions and policies to improve people’s reproductive and sexual health.
For this Special Issue we aim to present a collection of innovative, high-quality empirical research and literature reviews on reproductive health in the context of life span. We focus on the promotion of reproductive health and informed reproductive decision-making, psychological health and well-being throughout all stages and aspects of the reproductive process.
We invite authors to submit both qualitative and quantitative studies that address major gaps in the existing body of research or provide an in-depth analysis of the present state of knowledge about reproductive health. We welcome submissions that focus on (but are not limited to):
• Adolescent health
• Maternal health
• Paternal health
• Contraception
• Childbirth
• Sexually transmitted infection
• Abortion
• Fertility and Infertility
• Transition and adaptation to pregnancy
• Menopause
• Andropause
The Research Topic is particularly interested in original research, case studies and review articles, which draw practical implications for individuals and families, practitioners, and policy makers, as well as highlighting directions for future research from the life course approach to reproductive health.
