Sleep is a special functional state of the brain and the body, which is essential to maintain its normal physiological functions. The prevalence of sleep disorders increases every year. At present, there are many challenges in the prevention and treatment of major diseases related to sleep disorders, which could be due to the unclear mechanisms of sleep disorders as well as the lack of understanding of the specific markers and risk factors for the occurrence of diseases related to sleep disorders. These key indices have become the major obstacle to exploring personalized sleep medicine and the bottleneck for intervention and efficacy evaluation of sleep disorders.
The goals of this Research Topic are as follows: 1) to study the risk factors of sleep disorders and build up the early warning system through the analysis of multi-dimensional clinical cohorts and multi-modal big data of sleep disorders; 2) to explore the new methods of memory intervention during sleep by discussing the brain network characteristics of sleep disorders, the neural regulation mechanism of cognition and the memory coding mechanism; 3) to study the genetic factors associated with sleep disorders and their regulatory networks based on the molecular genetics and epigenetic techniques; 4) to discuss the occurrence and mechanisms of sleep disorders by combining deep learning algorithms and neural network dynamics modeling. These results will provide a scientific basis and means to improve the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders and related diseases.
We welcome submissions in the form of Original Research, Review articles, Case Report, Clinical Trial, Methods, Brief Research Reports et al. The research contents mainly include, but are not limited to, the following aspects:
• The neural network characteristics and neural regulation mechanism of cognition in sleep and sleep disorders;
• Multi-center, multi-dimensional cohort studies and big data analysis of sleep disorders;
• Genetics of sleep disorders and their regulatory networks;
• The exploration of mechanisms of occurrence and development of sleep disorders with deep learning methods and dynamic modeling analysis;
• New intervention techniques of sleep disorders (i.e., by combining artificial intelligence and neuromodulation technology).
