Emotions and their disturbances are important determinants of psychiatric disorders. It is, therefore, likely that various aspects of psychopathology may be influenced by the preeminent role played by the right hemisphere in comprehension, expression, and experience of emotions. It is, however, also likely that not all facets of psychopathology may be equally affected and that disturbances may chiefly strike matters in which emotions interact with other functions for which the right hemisphere also plays a leading role, such as arousal, attention, social cognition, or people recognition. The role of the right hemisphere in affective disorders has also been repeatedly discussed, without reaching widely shared conclusions.
The aim of this Research Topic is to collect papers dealing with both the general and with the more specific aspect of this fascinating issue.
