Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a very useful tool in some areas of earth science studies such as geophysics. For example, in petrophysics it is used for lithofacies classification and reservoir characterization from well-logs data. In gravity and magnetism, the AI is used for contacts identification and causative sources characterization and in seismology, the AI is used for earthquake characterization. In seismic data processing, the artificial intelligence is used for waveform inversion, automatic picking of seismic first-arrivals, and automatic interpretation of seismic horizons and faults. In electromagnetism, the ANNs are used for Interpretation of airborne data. In oceanography, the AI is used for segmentation and classification of topographic profiles of ridge-flank seafloor.
