Although the concept of burnout is relatively new, it was Cristina Maslach who described it and created a scale to measure it. We know that the burnout syndrome has 3 spheres, emotional exhaustion, dehumanization and low professional achievement.
The burnout of health professionals has become a public health problem. The coronavirus pandemic has done nothing more than show a reality that until now remained hidden. However, more and more research projects are being developed in order to truly know the impact of burnout in all health professions. Knowing what the real situation is, solutions can be proposed to try to redirect this problem, which affects all professionals from University onward.
The main goal of this Research Topic is to highlight the research that is currently being carried out on burnout in health professionals, as an occupational health and public health problem. To date there are different reviews and articles that have been made in recent years, with different proposals and recommendations. That is why another objective is to know what the situation is in different countries and what are the recommendations that have been proposed to reduce burnout. Finally, with the results that we can obtain, we can prepare some recommendations based on scientific evidence that can be implemented in health institutions around the globe.
In this project we accept Original Research articles and Systematic Reviews on the burnout of health professionals. Some articles may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- We are interested in knowing what is the situation of doctors, nurses and other health professions with regards to burnout as a result of the pandemic
- In addition we are also interested in projects carried out in health sciences students. We are interested in scientific projects in which actions have been evaluated to reduce or improve burnout in health professionals.
- We will value those articles that, apart from providing data, provide recommendations to reduce and improve burnout, with specific measures.
- We are interested in original articles on burnout in health studies students.
- We are interested in reviews that evaluate measures to decrease levels of burnout in health professionals.
- We are interested in articles that investigate causes of burnout beyond the structural characteristics of the health system
