Chronic pain is a common condition in older adults; pain can be of moderate to severe intensity and can persist for years. The presence of chronic pain clearly leads to physical and psychological distress in older adults and may manifest as anxiety or depression. There is a strong association between chronic pain and mental health among older adults.
The relationship between chronic conditions and psychological distress has been demonstrated, but there is still the need to explore the potential associations when chronic conditions and persistent pain; it is thus essential to investigate this relationship further and to identify effective chronic pain management programs in providing care for these conditions.
In this Research Topic, we aim to investigate the relationship between chronic pain and psychological distress and collect studies investigating potentially effective chronic pain management programs and treatments, such as non-pharmacologic approaches and manual techniques aimed at relieving chronic pain.
Authors are welcome to submit original research, reviews, and other article types describing recent advances in chronic pain management and the relationship between mental health and conditions causing persistent pain.
