Palliative care in Oncology can be categorized into Early Palliative Care (EPC) and end-of-life palliative care. This Research Topic focuses on EPC, calling for papers reporting possible activation criteria, different models of intervention and interaction with anticancer treatments, clinical and organizational outcomes.
Different models of EPC and/or simultaneous palliative care can be innovative in the processes (methods and criteria and timing of patient selection) and delivery (type and methods of professionals or teams) and have repercussions on clinical (symptom burden, quality of life, patient and family satisfaction), ethical (shared decision-making process, use of advance care planning) or organizational outcomes (optimal and appropriate use of health resources).
We welcome Original Articles, Epidemiological Studies, Systematic Reviews and Expert Reviews on EPC for cancer patients. We welcome papers focused on, but not limited to, the following themes:
- Methods and criteria for the timing of patient selection for EPC
- Delivery of EPC
- Quality of Life for EPC cancer patients
Please note: manuscripts consisting solely of bioinformatics, computational analysis, or predictions of public databases which are not accompanied by validation (independent cohort or biological validation in vitro or in vivo) will not be accepted in any of the sections of Frontiers in Oncology.
