The 5th ISESSAH conference aims at improving animal health and welfare policies, program and projects through a more nuanced use of concepts and tools available in economics and social science disciplines. In the process it will provide opportunities for animal health professionals globally to achieve wider societal benefits from animals in society.
There is an increasing demand for the low and middle income countries to evaluate the socioeconomic impacts of animal diseases and assess economic justifications of control programs, interventions and projects using current economic and social science approach with also considering important aspects such as animal welfare and human health. During this conference, results of many interesting research projects conducted in those countries were presented that sparked discussions between the scientist and experts attending the conference. This Research Topic brings together a number of these presentations.
The theme of the 5th ISESSAH conference was Livestock and Aquaculture Production, Consumption and Welfare. Of particular interest were papers that studied these issues considering the current challenges posed by the ongoing economic crisis due to Covid-19 and broader discussions around the transition to one-health approach. The main focusing areas were:
- Livestock and aquaculture economics
- Veterinary Epidemiology and Economics
- Food safety of livestock and aquaculture products
- Consumer behavior towards livestock and aquaculture products
All speakers and poster authors of the ISESSAH 5th annual conference are eligible for submitting a manuscript to this Research Topic. Contributions in the form of a full scientific manuscript (up to 12,000 words) are therefore welcome. Moreover, there is a possibility of submitting a Brief Research Report (up to 4,000 words) to the Research Topic.
