As the global environment changes, cold-blooded animals experience unprecedented challenges with increased species extinctions and disease outbreaks. At different levels of the living system, the organs of cold-blooded animals are also affected by the rapidly changing environment. Extensive and in-depth studies of their organ size can help understand the adaptation of their organs to environmental changes, as well as contribute to the conservation of species and the prevention and control of diseases. This research topic "Adaptive evolution of organs size in cold-blooded animals" mainly considers the acceptance and publication of state-of-the-art scientific research results on the structure, size and function of vertebrate organs such as brain, eye, digestive tract, heart and testes, to promote a wider application of this topic in the field of evolution and to promote an in-depth and comprehensive public understanding of the structure, size and function of cold-blooded animals’ organs.
This research topic will focus on:
1) adaptive mechanisms between the structure and function of cold-blooded animal organs,
2) mechanisms of coordinated development among cold-blooded animal organs,
3) patterns and mechanisms of geographic variation in cold-blooded animal organs, and
4) review/mini review or methodological articles in this research field.
In this topic, we hope to raise the attention from zoologists, ecologists, and evolutionary biologists across regions and disciplines, and to promote better understanding and interdisciplinary communication of related fields.
