People with disabilities are at risk of negative health and socio-economic outcomes and the disability related care is costly. There is currently little data on how best to deliver health services for people with disabilities because of the major gaps in our understanding of the health economic consequences of disability. Thus, there is a need for high quality evidence related to the design and organization of effective service models that support people with disabilities as well as regarding the best way to structure and organize those models.
The goal of this Research Topic is to bring together a collection of papers that explore the health economic consequences of disability and assess challenges and opportunities in the delivery of health services related to disability within primary and secondary care.
We welcome the submission of manuscripts including, but not limited to, the following topics:
• National and community-based service models that support people with disability. Effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of different service models.
• Unmet needs within primary and secondary health care providers regarding service delivery for people with disability. Patient perspectives on service models that support people with disability.
• Assessment of health care costs associated with disability. Short and long-run costs of disability.
• Design of disability-specific Health-related Quality of Life Outcomes (HRQoL) measures.
• Assessment of HRQoL among people with disabilities.
• Prevalence and consequences of disability among vulnerable groups.
