This Research Topic is part of a series with:
Experimental Models of Epilepsy and Related Comorbidities, Volume IEpileptic patients live with epilepsy-associated complications such as cognitive dysfunction, psychological discomfort, and sexual function decline, and are more likely to experience emotional and mental health issues problems, including depression and anxiety. Many antiepileptic drugs are found to have a role in aggravating psychiatric symptoms. Animal models, which inform translational questions about epilepsy comorbidities, are used to study the relationship between epilepsy and related comorbidities.
The aim of this Research Topic is to highlight basic, clinical and interdisciplinary research involved in studying various disease models and antiepileptic drug discovery, and combine it with input from behavioral, biochemical and molecular aspects including genetic.
In this issue, we welcome submissions from basic and/or clinical studies and review papers that summarize current knowledge, and point out gaps in understanding of epilepsy-associated comorbitdities and related research for drug discovery.
