Stroke is the second leading cause of death and one of the main causes of disability in the world. Stroke care should be organized through the implementation of evidence-based and cost-effective strategies at all levels of care to decrease stroke-associated incidence, disability and mortality. However, implementing stroke systems of care is a challenge, especially in low- and medium- resource settings. Several reasons can be found for the low implementation rates, not only related to the cost of advanced treatments, but even for simple and low-cost strategies that depend on knowledge, organization and health education. Therefore, efforts should be made to advance the use of creative and structured successful model solutions that are available for the implementation of Stroke Systems of Care across the globe.
This research topic aims to investigate gaps in the implementation of Stroke Systems of Care across the globe and assess the solutions found to address these gaps in each location. Authors are encouraged to show step by step the implementation of stroke care in countries/regions and show local advances in stroke care in recent years, such as the implementation of Stroke Units, availability of Thrombolysis and Thrombectomy, use of telemedicine and artificial intelligence. In this Research Topic we aim to including research from different countries, which will allow comparisons of loco-regional experiences.
Thus, topic editors will welcome any types of manuscripts supported by the Journal – comprised of research article, brief research article, review, and mini-review – pertaining, but not limited to the following themes:
• Organization of stroke prevention in the Primary Health Care System
• Organization of pre-hospital for stroke care
• Organization of Stroke Centers/Stroke Units in a country or region
• Organization of Rehabilitation Programs
• Organization of Stroke Telemedicine Programs
• Step-by-step organization of Stroke Networks
• Evaluation of gaps in implementation and possible solutions found to address these gaps
• Step-by-step implementation strategy and advances in stroke care
