Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is an ancient traditional system of health and wellness which has been used in China for thousands of years, playing an important role in improving the health of Chinese people as well as the prevention and treatment of main diseases. The recent inclusion of TCM into the ICD-11 (International Classification of Diseases 11th Revision) represents an opportunity for TCM to become an integral part of global health care in the UN member states and beyond.
Experimental evidence shows that the multi-effect integrated regulation mode of action of TCM could be beneficial for the treatment of various diseases, including endocrine disorders. TCM theories and principles seem to be similar to personalized medicine and cocktail therapy of western practice. Nevertheless, complexities including unclear bioactive compounds, mechanisms of action, undetermined targets for therapy, non-specific features for drug metabolism and toxicology, are currently an obstacle for the progression of TCM itself.
This Research Topic focuses on the effect and mechanisms of TCM on the cells and their response to these natural products. TCM approaches to Cellular Endocrinology will collect high-quality manuscripts on the recent advances of TCM in the landscape of Cellular Endocrinology pathways and mechanisms, while emphasizing important directions and new possibilities for future research progression.
